On July 8th, the Azerbaijan Food and Beverage Industrialists Association (AQISA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and with the support of the Azerbaijan Packaging Industry Association, held a discussion on proposed legislative changes. The meeting was attended by representatives of both international and local companies, including AQISA members.
The primary focus of the meeting was the topic of banning single-use plastics. A wide range of issues were discussed, including the impact of the bans already in place, the transition to eco-friendly packaging, challenges faced by businesses, recycling of plastic caps, the effects of plastic bag regulations, and the consequences of selling plastic bags for a fee. Additionally, the meeting reviewed next steps that need to be taken to address these issues.
As a result of these discussions, several proposals were put forward to facilitate the transition to eco-friendly packaging materials and to increase recycling efforts. It was decided to strengthen cooperation within the framework of public-private dialogue, establish a commission to review legislation, and prepare joint action plans to address existing challenges.
I was honored to participate in this significant discussion, where we collaboratively explored solutions that will contribute to creating a more sustainable future. It was inspiring to see the active engagement and commitment of all stakeholders in driving meaningful change for the benefit of both the industry and the environment.
